EFL CUP

The EFL cup, also historically known as the League Cup, and currently known as the Carabao Cup due to sponsorship reasons, is an annual knockout competition in men’s English football. The Cup is organised by the English Football League and is open to any clubs in the top four levels of the English football league system, which includes 92 clubs in total. The competition was first held in 1960 and is one of the most popular domestic football tournaments in England. Held over seven rounds and concluding in a final at Wembley Stadium, each match is an in demand sporting event to watch live and Zenseats can provide top tier seating and hospitality packages across all the venues.

History

The League Cup was established in 1960, at a time when match day attendances were dwindling and tensions between the Football League and Football Association were high. Although at first The League Cup faced criticism by some and struggled at first, it soon gained momentum and by 1967 the final was being held at Wembley Stadium.

The introduction of The League Cup also gave the Football League more negotiating power with the FA and UEFA and the League was eventually successful in gaining European qualification for the League Cup winner. Once this European position and a final at Wembley was up for grabs, the League Cup started to gain the attention of the larger clubs with most of them entering the competition every year.
