Coldplay Tour Overview

The Music of the Sphere’s Tour is Coldplay’s eighth concert tour and will be promoting their latest album of the same name, as well as featuring performances of the band’s classics for the audience. With the album’s concept being based around a fictional planetary system, the special effects for this tour are guaranteed to be out of this world and will feature extensive pyrotechnic and confetti visuals.

The 2022 tour kicks off on 22nd March in Costa Rica, before travelling across the Americas and Europe for its first leg. The Music of the Sphere Tour is highly anticipated, especially due to the fact that Coldplay didn’t tour to promote their previous album, Everyday Life, stating that they wanted to wait until they could find a more environmentally friendly approach to touring.

In order to execute their vision, the band has developed a detailed plan for the upcoming tour.  The plan has been created in collaboration with leading environmental experts over the last two years and will result in a 50% drop in the amount of carbon dioxide generated in comparison to the band’s last tour, A Head Full of Dreams. The innovative sustainability practises include a kinetic dance floor that will harness the energy of fans’ dancing to help generate power for the concert, a stage produced using recyclable materials, and biodegradable wristbands and confetti.

About Coldplay

Coldplay is a British alternative rock band that first formed in 1996, its members include vocalist and pianist Chris Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bass player Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion. The band first rose to fame in 2000 with the release of their hit single, Yellow, and the subsequent release of their debut album, Parachutes, in the same year which was nominated for the Mercury Prize.

Coldplay has been incredibly successful over the last two decades, having sold over 100 million records and won multiple awards including NMEs Album of the Year for A Rush of Blood to the Head and a number of Grammys for their fourth studio album Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends. Some of the band's hit singles include, Speed of Sound, Clocks and Viva La Vida.

Coldplay’s latest album, Music of the Spheres was released in 2021 and is the second space-themed concept album from the band. The album is composed around the idea of a fictional planetary system called ‘The Spheres’, which consists of nine planets, three natural satellites, a star and a nebula. Each song in the album correlates to a planet, satellite, star or nebula and Chris Martin cited the Star Wars film franchise as being a major inspiration for much of the music.

The closing track on the Music of the Spheres album, Coloratura, has received widespread critical acclaim and Higher Power, one of the main singles of the album, was nominated for Best Pop Group Performance at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards.
