With the world (almost) back in full swing after two years of being shut away, it's time to dust off those cobwebs and stretch those legs throughout 2022. Sport is certainly ready for the comeback and there are almost too many nail biting events to keep track of, so at ZenSeats we’ve done you a favour and made a list of our top 2022 sporting events to look out for.
Formula One world championship
After the excruciatingly intense finish to the 2021 world championship in which Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton battled it out to the bitter end, this year's upcoming season has got everyone worked up in a frenzy!
There are a number of notable changes to the playing field this year with a new driver accompanying Hamilton at Mercedes and a record number of 23 Grands Prix, including the first ever one held in Miami, so expect lots of excitement and surprises. The first Grand Prix kicks off on 20th March and the season runs through until late November with races being held internationally.
Wimbledon, U.K.
The world’s oldest tennis championship is always a spectacular event that you wouldn’t want to miss, but this year it is looking to be that bit more special due to it being the Centre Court’s 100th birthday. Expect the usual sense of tradition with additional centenary celebrations, and of course outstanding performances from the world’s best tennis players.
Novak Djokovic and Ashleigh Barty will be arriving as the men’s and women’s champions looking to retain their titles this year. Much loved former Wimbledon champion Andy Murray will also be making an appearance, after much speculation as to whether he would return to the championship, Murray has announced that he is currently focusing all of his efforts into preparing for the British tournament.
World Cup, Qatar
There is no way we could write this list without including one of the world’s most popular sporting events, the FIFA World Cup. The 2022 World Cup is set to be like no other as it will take place during the winter season for the first time in history, due to middle eastern country Qatar, playing host.
After a highly successful 2018 World Cup for England, there is much hope that we can build on what was achieved last year and finally bring football home. The setting might be a little different and the fans at home certainly won’t be watching in beer gardens this year, but fingers crossed the three lions can deliver the country’s Christmas present.
