Sam Smith Tour Overview

Sam Smith, in full Samuel Frederick Smith, (born May 19, 1992, London, England), British soul singer with a mellifluous voice who was noted for lyrics that subverted the notions of romantic love that defined popular soul music.

Smith was raised in Cambridgeshire, born to a father who was a truck driver and greengrocer and a mother who was a banker. Both parents encouraged Smith’s singing at a young age, after the budding vocalist impressed them with a rendition of Whitney Houston’s “My Love Is Your Love.” Smith pursued vocal training and soon appeared in local theatre productions and with Youth Music Theatre UK, going through six managers before ultimately moving to London at age 18 to pursue opportunities there.

About Sam Smith

Samuel Frederick Smith, popularly known as Sam Smith, was born in Cambridgeshire, England, to Kate Cassidy and Frederick Smith, on May 19, 1992. Their pronouns are they/them, and they identify as non-binary. Their father worked as a truck driver and greengrocer, and their mother was a banker. Their parents prod them to sing after Smith sang a cover of Whitney Houston’s ‘My Love Is Your Love.’ Following vocal training, Smith started performing in regional theater shows. Additionally, he participated in a jazz ensemble, the Cantate Youth Choir, and Bishop’s Stortford Junior Operatics, now known as Bishops Stortford Musical Theatre Society.

Smith and their family relocated to London when he was 18 to pursue new opportunities. Their collaboration with Disclosure on the song ‘Latch,’ which featured the singer’s ethereal falsetto, gave them their first major break. The song naturally got popular right away. Then, in 2013, Smith issued their debut album, “In the Lonely Hour.” The difficulties the vocalist had in their personal life as a homosexual man served as inspiration for the record. They tweeted in 2009 that they identify as non-binary and that their pronouns are they/them.

They have worked with several notable musicians throughout the years, including Calvin Harris, Normani, Clean Bandit, Timbaland, and Summer Walker. The Brit Awards, Billboard Music Awards, American Music Awards, Golden Globe, four Grammys, and an Oscar are just a few of the honors Smith has received. Smith has had a remarkable career thus far, and it appears as if things can only get better.
