About Charli XCX

Charli XCX, whose full name is Charlotte Emma Aitchison, is an English singer-songwriter who first made her way onto the music scene by posting songs on MySpace in 2008, which got her spotted by a promoter who invited her to perform at warehouse raves. Two years later, Charli XCX was signed to Asylum Records and released singles and mixtapes throughout 2011 and 2012.

It was in 2012 that Charli XCX broke through to the mainstream by collaborating with Icona Pop for the internationally successful single, “I Love It” which reached the top 10 in the charts in both Europe and North America. The following year the artist released her debut studio album, True Romance, which although critically acclaimed was not as successful commercially as expected however in 2014 she released “Boom Clap” which became her first solo top ten single on the Billboard Hot 100.

In 2015 Charli XCX took a more experimental direction and her third and fourth albums have both been regarded highly in the industry. Charli’s most recent album, Crash, which she released in 2022 has become her first number-one album in the UK, Ireland and Australia and also her first top ten album in the US, cementing the artist as not only critically successful but commercially too.

Charli XCX Facts

  • Charli XCX convinced her parents to lend her the money to self record her own album at 14 years old.
  • Charli XCX claims to see music in colours, which is a (rather cool) symptom of synesthesia. She loves music that is black, pink, purple or red but is not a fan of songs that are green, yellow or brown.
  • In 2017 Charli was hacked and what was her third album work in progress was stolen from her Google Drive and released online.
