Leeds is one of the biggest cities in the UK and whilst being recognised as a leading economic and commercial hub, it has retained a sense of traditional charm thanks to its combination of historic Victorian era construction with modern skyscrapers. Leeds also has a wonderful variety of indoor venues, both large and small, and outdoor green spaces, with an eclectic selection of events being held all year round.
Leeds Music Events
As well as a plethora of venues for intimate gigs and large scale concerts, such as the First Direct Arena, Leeds Town Hall and the 02 Academy, Leeds is also home to some of the biggest and best festivals in the country. Every August, over 100,000 attendees flock to Leeds Festival, one the largest traditional rock festivals in the UK that features legendary international artists as well as up and coming bands and soloists. Some of the most iconic names in rock have played at Leeds Festival including Nirvana, the Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and the Arctic Monkeys.
Live at Leeds festival also takes place every year in May, with various venues across the city hosting over 100 bands during the course of the Bank Holiday weekend. Artists of note that have played the festival include, Ed Sheeran, The Maccabees and Mumford and Sons.
Leeds Sports Events
There is a variety of spectator sports to enjoy in the city of Leeds. You could catch a Leeds United FC game at Elland Road Stadium, the local team now competes in the Premier League after being promoted in the 2019-2020 season. Leeds’ Rugby Team, the Leeds Rhinos, also play in the professional Rugby League and the ice hockey team, Leeds Knights competes in National League, playing at Planet Ice in Leeds.
