The city of Bristol has produced world famous talent such as Massive Attack, Portishead, Bananarama and the iconic street artist, Banksy. It’s smaller venues and creative atmosphere have given it recognition as a thriving environment for young and upcoming artists.
Despite not having a stadium arena in the city, Bristol still manages to attract world-class acts to its smaller venues, giving the opportunity to see your favourite performers in a much more intimate setting. Colston Hall has hosted big names such as David Bowie, Ozzy Osbource, Michael Buble and Joy Division and the venue also plays hosts to the annual Jazz Festival.
Bristol Sports Events
Some of the oldest sports teams in the country exist in Bristol, such as Bristol City and Bristol Rovers football clubs, homed at Ashton Gate stadium and the Memorial Stadium respectively. If you’re a rugby fan you can find the premiership union team, Bristol Bears at Ashton Gate stadium. Bristol also boasts its own cricket ground, where you can catch the first class, Gloucestershire County Cricket Club playing.
Bristol Balloon Fiesta
By far the most popular event in Bristol is the annual Bristol International Balloon Fiesta, a four day festival that has been taking place since 1979. The event sees more than 100 hot air balloons launch off at locations all around the city, filling the sky with stunning shapes and colours. The festival also features food and drink stalls, fireworks and entertainment, and attracts people from all over the country and further afar.
